Location. Facing the ocean, Luzmar Villas is an small hotel set between the villages of Luz and Burgau, seven kilometres west of Lagos. Faro Airport (FAO) is 92 kilometres away.

Hotel Features. Comprised of four white villas bordering a large swimming pool, the hotel's relaxed ambience attracts guests seeking sunshine, rest, and the opportunity to explore the western Algarve. Surrounded by sunbathing terraces and set in flowering gardens, the 33 metre pool includes a separate children's section at one end. Darts and table tennis are available on a covered terrace and bowling is played on the lawn. Board games and a computer with high speed Internet access (surcharge) are available in the living room.

Guests of Luzmar Villas enjoy a complimentary English buffet breakfast each morning. The ocean view restaurant also serves buffet dinners featuring Portuguese specialities, and the ground level lounge offers drinks and light meals.

Luzmar Villas is two kilometres from Luz Beach, a 300 metre stretch that ends with a 200 metre cliff. A switchback path winds its way up to the cliff's top where climbers are rewarded with panoramic coastal views. Seven kilometres east of the hotel, independent operators offer water sports in summer on Lagos Beach. There are three golf courses within a 12 kilometre radius. The nearest is Boavista, 4.5 kilometres away.

Guestrooms. Luzmar Villas offers 32 air conditioned guestrooms in four two storey villas. Decor features tile floors with rugs, dark wood furniture, and original Portuguese paintings. Furnished terraces and balconies face the garden and pool, and offer views of the ocean 300 metres away. Amenities include satellite TV channels, direct dial phones, compact refrigerators, shower/tub combinations, and safes (surcharge). Hair dryers are provided on request.

Expert Tip. Two kilometres from the hotel, a marble paved promenade extends along Luz Beach. Strollers contemplating the ocean can miss a small opening in the stone wall on the promenade's land side that leads to Roman bath ruins.

Driving Directions

Getting there. A taxi from the airport costs EUR 70 80. Public buses stop adjacent to the hotel and operate to Lagos until early evening, with taxis available for late returns. Bicycles and mopeds can be hired through the hotel. A hire car is recommended for exploring the surrounding area.

Driving directions. From Faro Airport exit airport onto the A22 and go west toward Portimao. Continue past Portimao toward Lagos. Exit the A22 and follow signs to Lagos/Vila do Bispo. At the second roundabout, turn right towards Vila do Bispo/Sagres and join the N125 westbound. Ignore the sign at first traffic light pointing left toward Luz. At the second set of traffic lights turn left toward Luz. At the roundabout, turn right toward Burgau. Continue for exactly 1.6 kilometres (1 mile); the hotel will be on the left (please note that the sign may be obscured).
